The End

The great TRP215 blog experiment for 2009 is over. I've added an appropriate wordle, based on scientific discourse analysis... Click on the image to enlarge. Thanks to all who took part in the blor or the field class.

La crise des banlieues?

A very quick post on the topic in the title (the crisis of the suburbs?). French urban policy in recent years has been overshadowed by troubles in the banlieues, or suburbs, where there are vast areas of social housing - particularly around Paris. One of the main features of the 'crisis' has been the way it was reported in the media - in particular, rioting and car burning. It is interesting, therefore, that on our visit to Lille we came across some burnt out vehicles in an area of social housing. This photo was taken by urban adventurer Renelle Sarjeant in Tourcoing, near C. H. Dron metro station just beside the Belgian border (click on it for full size image).

Lille in Photos

So, we went to Lille and then we came back. Here are a few photos of things I noticed. As you can see, I'm not in the habit of taking photos of normal things (and I took quite a few photos of bicycles).

Hope everyone made it back on Sunday (no thanks to the bloody train company!).

Will be sorting through the photos of the fieldtrip and making copies if people want some.

Here is a reminder of things. Better pictures will be on the way. If anyone wants a copy of the pictures let me know and I can put them on a CD and send them to the department or sort out some download thingy.

Later,
Matt

Very much looking forward to this, see you later!

Yesterday's lecture pretty much cleared up everything I had to query on this blog or in person. The handbook is thorough!

Would be good to see sketches etc after the trip!

What to post?

Photos, videos, general musings, scan and post your sketches, train tickets, notes - whatever - it's up to you! For example...

In fact, I'd encourage you to post videos too because it is easy to upload. You can either put them onto youtube then use the embed code (not difficult) or just upload them into individual posts using the little film icon (it's in the compose toolbar when you're writing a post)...

Bloggy Blogs

Hello hello,

Just a few questions on the blog...

What sort of things should we comment about?

...am I right in imagining this will be a sort of rolling diary of all the TRP students on tour to Lille?

Seems exciting though...

Rob

p.s. Andy is well the teacher's pet...
