What to post?

Photos, videos, general musings, scan and post your sketches, train tickets, notes - whatever - it's up to you! For example...

In fact, I'd encourage you to post videos too because it is easy to upload. You can either put them onto youtube then use the embed code (not difficult) or just upload them into individual posts using the little film icon (it's in the compose toolbar when you're writing a post)...

Bloggy Blogs

Hello hello,

Just a few questions on the blog...

What sort of things should we comment about?

...am I right in imagining this will be a sort of rolling diary of all the TRP students on tour to Lille?

Seems exciting though...

p.s. Andy is well the teacher's pet...

First Post Kudos

Quite a few TRP bloggers signed up so far - good stuff. Hopefully some people can blog during the trip too. Well done to Andrew Ford-Marsden for first post - glad we've got one keen blogger. In answer to the question (also on 'Maps' section on MOLE'), this is best answered by this (follow the blue line north or south to see hotels - then click hotel icons for more info):

And remember that you can drag the little person from the top left of the full size map onto the street to view at street level - now also available for the UK - 25 cities... As for hotel room mate assignments, coming soon...

Good shout on the blog Alasdair! Do we know where we are staying (hostels) and rooms yet? Cheers,

The Lille Blog - 2009

This blog will serve as the 'home on the web' of the European Urban Field Class 2009 from the University of Sheffield. Second year students in Town and Regional Planning, and Geography, will participate in a field class in this northern French city from 1-5 April 2009.

So, why are we going to Lille? Well, from the perspective of European spatial planning it is in a strategically important location - being located at the heart of the so-called 'blue banana' or 'banane bleue'. It is also a former industrial city that has since experienced significant reinvention and development - some of it due to Eurostar. There are also important urban design elements here which merit a further look - for example, the way in which the old Lille has successfully been integrated with the new. Another element is location - something Lille is famous for.

These are just some of the good reasons why we are going to Lille and why it is important to the field of urban planning, urban design, transport, etc...
